v1.4.1

plug it in. it's copied.

plug anything in. it's copied.

what it does
Plug an iPhone, iPad, camera, memory card or USB drive into your mac and okaycopy copies every photo, video and file to a folder you choose. Each device gets its own folder.

verified
Every file is checked against the one on the device before it counts. When everything is there it says so: all files are on your mac and verified.

only what's new
Files already copied are skipped, so plugging in again takes seconds and grabs just the new ones. Nothing on your devices is ever changed or deleted.

stays yours
Your files go straight from the cable to your disk. No account, no cloud. The only thing okaycopy asks the internet is whether there's a new version.

1.4.1
2026-10-19 · download (4.7 MB)
— Get Texts no longer stops on a half-arrived Messages database. It used to stop early and export nothing; now it waits until the database is complete and really holds messages.
— The Texts & apps card shows every step with its own progress: passcode and preparing, receiving the backup (size, speed, time so far, and time left for a full backup), the Messages database, attachments (for example 1,240 of 3,246), exporting conversations, and Photo Vault for full backups.
— Says when the iPhone is preparing the backup after the passcode, which can take a few minutes.
— If no messages come through, the card says so instead of showing a green tick.
1.4.0
2026-10-19 · download (4.7 MB)
— Texts & apps: a new card for each iPhone. **Get Texts** backs up the iPhone just until its messages and attachments are in, then stops and exports every conversation as readable pages (and plain text) with names from the phone's contacts and all attachments. **Full Backup** runs to the end once and adds apps' private data, like Photo Vault's photos. Later backups only copy what changed.
— Choose a separate folder for texts and app data, or keep them with the photos.
— Shows "enter your passcode on the iPhone" the moment the iPhone asks, and explains a locked or unplugged iPhone in plain words, with Try Again.
— Backups need the iPhone to stay plugged in. A USB 3 cable makes them several times faster than the USB 2 cable most iPhones come with.
1.3.2
2026-10-19 · download (4.7 MB)
— Opens with the okay loader: the okay engineering glyph draws itself, then the app fades in. Shared with okayengineering.com through okaydesign.
— Progress moves while big files copy, and the card shows the big file being copied with its own count (for example "IMG_1149.MOV · 210 MB of 560 MB"), so long videos don't look stuck.
1.3.1
2026-10-19 · download (4.3 MB)
— Gets every photo from a phone that was locked when you plugged it in. The list used to stop at the first few dozen items. It now waits until the phone is unlocked and the list stops growing.
— Knows the moment you unlock the phone: the "Please unlock" message goes away by itself.
— If the phone locks during a copy, the copy pauses and carries on by itself when you unlock it. Nothing is marked as failed.
— New icon: the okay engineering ring and block, with the orange dot.
— If photos appear on the phone during a copy, the card no longer says everything is verified. It offers Copy Again for the new ones.
— Files an app shares but keeps protected (SmartThings, for example) count as "kept private by their app", not as failures that never go away.
— Updates wait until no copy is running before they install.
1.3.0
2026-10-19 · download (4.2 MB)
— Updates itself. OkayCopy checks okayengineering.com every few hours and installs new versions quietly. Check for Updates is in the OkayCopy menu and at the bottom of the window.
— The version and a link to this version history are at the bottom of the window.
— First version you can download, from okayengineering.com/products/copy/.
1.2.0
2026-10-19 · not released on its own
— iPhone files. Each iPhone also gets a Files card for the files its apps share over USB (eufy, VLC, Pages…) and its Books and Recordings folders.
— Cameras copy every file on them, not only photos and videos.
— Each copied file is checked against its size on the device and copied again if it doesn't match. "All N files are on your Mac and verified" shows when everything is there.
— Drives and cards copy 8 files at a time.
1.1.0
2026-10-19 · not released on its own
— Renamed to OkayCopy, and it copies anything you plug in: iPhones, iPads, cameras, memory cards and USB drives.
— Starts copying as soon as something is plugged in (you can turn this off). Drives that were already plugged in when the app opened wait for a click.
— Each device gets its own folder. Photos are sorted by month, and everything else keeps its folders.
— Refuses to start if the Mac doesn't have room, keeps the Mac awake while copying, and can eject the device when done.

2026-10-19 · not released on its own
— First version, called Phone Copy: copies every photo and video from an iPhone to the Mac, skipping ones already copied.
